Commercial Free

Ugh! I hate commercial free programming. From a generation of children raised on TV, among other things, I have a short attention span. It is simply too much to watch programs or movies straight through. Whether watching TVO, or one of those movie channels my satellite package charges me too much for, after 20 or 25 minutes I'm itching to move. Grab a snack, wash some dishes, or take an opportune moment to relieve myself. And really, without commercials how am I supposed to know what I want, apart from product placement. I can't wait for the next hilarious Dairy Queen commercial, or Zellers' feast of the senses (well, maybe only for two), or the chance to ridicule the efforts of some major corporation. I suppose living in an isolated locale, devoid of the bombardment of other forms of advertising, I need that hit television can so readily provide. So give me a commercial break. I could use a, what's that? A Pillsbury Pizza Pocket. Why, I have some in the freezer, and they take just 2 minutes to make.

Ron MacLean

I'd really like to play some hockey with Ron MacLean. Maybe just some shinny, or pond hockey. I mean, Is he any good, or can he just skate? Does his witty repartee with Don Cherry translate into any playing ability? I could see him having some skills, or at least set me up with a mad pass. He's a ref. His eyes are open, and he should be an 'aware' player. He must have played in his youth, and he often does those spots on Hockey Night in Canada where they pass on some helpful playing tips.
Then again, I'd like to play hockey with anybody, all the time.

Doing the dishes

Now that i've eliminated any chance that this blog be taken seriously, it's time to talk about the things that are really important, like doing the dishes.
There's just something special in this simple act. For me it has become as a ritual. A seemingly mindless chore in which the mind can be refreshed through simple method and industry. It all started for me when I was a 18 year old boy working in a localish restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I didn't think it was fun, and I still don't. It's not about fun. But that's when it became a matter of speed, efficiency, and of course cleanliness. I suppose for me, it has now become akin to a form of meditation. The mind is occupied, but on a task that it has repeated thousands of times, washing bowl after bowl, plate after plate, utensil after utensil, cup after cup, and pot after pan. In that order. And rinse. for goodness sakes rinse. No one likes the taste of soap. Free the mind of work and worry. So there you go, I guess I'm a loser cause I like mentally soothing activities that are at the same time purposeful.
Oh yeah, I also like how it keeps my fingernails clean.
